American often say, "People are alike all over." This is true and not true. As one species, all men share basic human emotions, but culture is a powerful force that teaches its participants when it is appropriate to show or to hide these feelings.
Thais are like Americans in some ways and different in others. This program focuses on the observable differences where misunderstandings can occur.
Not all Thais share the attitudes described here, and Bangkok is very different from the provinces. However, I hope to show some valid but light-hearted generalizations. |
